Recently, I was talking to a friend who works as a senior executive for a major MLS. The conversation turned to all these state laws that are being passed and proposed.

Since I've written about many of them, I raised the point to him that these laws hurt the MLS, rather than help them. And in at least two cases, eviscerate the MLS. He did not know what I was talking about.

I thought to write this sort of summary and review for him and others in his position – executives, board members, and those brokers and agents generally concerned about the MLS. Most of what is here is not original; I have already laid out what I see in other posts.

What is new, however, is something for NAR to consider seeing as how I kind of took them to the woodshed for pretending like they have a role to play with the MLS. It turns out, there is something NAR can do to really benefit and help the MLS: rein in the various state Associations.

Let's get into it.

As always, I am doing analysis of various state laws and rendering opinions, but none of this is legal advice and I am not your lawyer. Please consult your own attorney for actual legal advice.
